From the GM – Kevin Hill
Well, I think summer is here. The pool is open! I hope everyone enjoys the summer and what we have done to make the pool better. Please remember to observe the pool rules and the lifeguards. They are there for your safety and to help make the pool an enjoyable place for all to spend the summer. We have made a large commitment to the food operation and its accessibility during all hours the pool is open. Please support this operation as much as you can. It is only possible to offer this service with support from you.
Tennis is in full swing with Mixed Doubles season starting. Tennis clinics are ongoing and the Mixed Sticks camps will be starting soon. Please contact the Tennis Shop to sign up for Mixed Sticks. I want to touch on a few changes to golf fees that are effective June 1st. Our cart fees will be going to 18.00 for 18 holes and 11.00 for 9 holes. Also, we are increasing our rates for daily fee golf to 40.00 weekdays and 45.00 weekends.
These rates are Greens Fees and Cart Fees and are for before 3:00 PM. We will still offer a twilight rate of 29.00 after 3:00 PM. With our course in better condition I believe we warrant this increase. Guests of a member are still offered a discounted rate from the daily fee rate before 3:00. Those rates are 34.00 weekdays and 40.00 weekends. We have also started using some rangers at certain times during the week. They are in the process of learning how we want things done. I hope this will help make golf here at the club more enjoyable.
As far as the golf course and the greens, contrary to popular belief all of the rain we have had is not a welcome sight to our superintendent. When we have as much rain as we have we lose control of the amount of water in the soil. This leads to a number of challenges when humidity stays high and temperatures start to climb. We have experienced some stress to our newly sodded areas due to their youth in addition to perfect conditions for fungus and disease to develop. We feel that with the ongoing chemical program we have been on this year and the addition of a few fans to help the most susceptible greens we will weather the
storm of the hot summer. We will not be without stress to some of the greens in a worse way than others, but not like we have seen in the past few years.I want to thank all of you for your comments and suggestions and your continued support of Greenwood Country Club. I feel we are moving in a very positive direction and am confident that we will continue on that path. Always feel free to contact me.
